Otto365 AI Brief #027
Amazon: Polly's computer voices read numbers and addresses correctly
What happened
Amazon Polly's voices read numbers and addresses correctly. Does your phone line care? AWS announced an upgrade to the Amazon Polly Generative engine on the 22nd of October 2026. Polly is an AWS service turning text into speech for contact centres and voice agents.1
Three things to know
- Numbers read right First, the voices sound more natural, with low latency, and read numbers, currency, addresses and codes accurately. AWS's sample has Kenneth reading back a tracking number, address and confirmation code. Tone follows the text, no manual setup.1
- 14 voices, 9 locales Second, 14 new voices across 9 locales, including Australian English, German, Korean, Hindi and Finnish, making 57 generative voices in total. The new voices run in 11 AWS Regions, including London.1
- Same price, same code Third, it is a drop-in upgrade: voice names and API calls are unchanged, with no code changes needed. AWS says the price stays the same, and cached static prompts replay at no extra cost.1
Why it matters to you
Otto365's take (opinion)
So, my take. It could help a small firm's phone line or order updates, where callers hear prices read correctly. Still, it is an AWS developer service that someone must set up.1

Importantly, this is a drop-in upgrade for existing generative voices. Voice names and API calls are unchanged, so your existing applications continue to work as they do today.

No changes to your code are required to get the upgraded voices. For applications that already use Amazon Polly Generative voices, the upgrade happens in place.

With this model upgrade, you get improved voice quality and accuracy at the same price. There's no cost increase, no new SKU, and no changes to your existing integration. You can cache and replay synthesized static prompts with no additional cost.

Contact-center teams - The improvements reach Amazon Connect and Genesys flows automatically.

When a caller checks an order, a voice that reads back the tracking number, address, and confirmation code correctly helps resolve the call in self-service rather than escalating to a human agent.
