Otto365 AI Brief #042
Google: check whether that image or clip is AI-made
What happened
Google's new tools check whether an image or audio clip is AI-made. Google announced its October 2026 AI roundup on the 2nd of November 2026. Two items help a small firm spot fakes and scams.1
Three things to know
- SynthID: is it AI-made? First, SynthID Detector is expanding globally in English, announced in October 2026, to check whether an image, video or audio clip was AI-generated. SynthID has already watermarked over 180 billion images and videos.1
- Partners: OpenAI, Apple Second, it also identifies AI content from industry partners like OpenAI, NVIDIA, Kakao and Apple. Built-in verification tools in Search, Chrome and the Gemini app handle over a million requests a day.1
- Messages scam mode Third, Google says Scam Detection in Phone and Messages flags over 5 million suspected scam calls and texts a month. Android's new opt-in Enhanced protection mode in Messages, announced in October 2026, uses cloud Gemini models to catch conversational scams.1
Why it matters to you
Otto365's take (opinion)
So, my take. Fake invoices, cloned voices and scam texts hit UK small firms, and a check before you pay or share is a good habit, though a watermark detector cannot prove something is real.1
Do this week
Try this: check one suspicious image or clip with SynthID Detector.
