Otto365 AI Brief #044
OpenAI: buying Pierre's tools to check the code AI agents write
What happened
OpenAI's latest deal is about checking the code that AI agents write. OpenAI announced it will acquire Pierre, a developer tools company, on the 4th of November 2026. Pierre makes the file browser and change viewer inside the Codex app.1
Three things to know
- Trees and Diffs First, Trees lets you browse a project's files, Diffs shows what changed, and its Edit mode fixes a line where you spot it. If you have reviewed a change in the Codex app, you have already used both.1
- Two more Pierre tools Second, Highlights is a syntax highlighter that updates as a developer types or an agent streams code. Code Storage is a service that lets apps store code and track its history using Git.1
- After the deal closes Third, Pierre's open-source projects stay open-source, and Code Storage customers can keep using it after closing while OpenAI works to bring its features into Codex. The deal needs regulatory approvals, and the companies stay separate until closing.1
Why it matters to you
Otto365's take (opinion)
So, my take. As coding agents write more code, the slow part becomes reviewing what changed. If a UK small business pays for software or builds tools with AI, someone has to check each change.1
Do this week
Try this: before approving code work, ask to see what changed.
